SoMa: On Tuesday, the city approved Westfield's plans to overhaul the Metreon and make it a shiny new restaurant hub of sorts. Today, with a tip of the proverbial cap to Curbed, we're happy to share the renderings from the project, as well as a bevy of hot restaurant tidbits. First, as you can see above, the Metreon name is sticking around. Second, so is Jillian's. In fact, not only is Jillian's keeping its ground floor location, but it's going to be expanding into the second floor space directly above its current digs. Third, the existing food court will be turned into a dining terrace that "overlooks and spills out into the Gardens." But you want to hear about the centerpiece of the remodel, the Tavern on the Green.
Here, then, are some further Tavern on the Green details from the proposal. As we already know, it's going to be on the fourth floor (one above the cinema) and consist of an ungodly 43,000 square feet. But there's more: the restaurant itself will include 130 seats, a piano bar and lounge area, plus the following: an "outdoor terrace bar areas with seating around several fire pits, and terrace dining for about 300 people." Mind you, that's not counting "several" private event rooms for the convention crowds.
