The Shutter: And Down Goes Cafe Majestic

Pacific Heights: Via the BauerBlog comes the news that Cafe Majestic has locked its doors sans any notice. Even for a restaurant that has boasted two young, charismatic chefs in Louis Maldonado and Ian Begg—not to mention talented: each got three-star reviews and Rising Star status from the Chron in the last two years—the news doesn't come as a surprise. Simply put, since reopening in 2007 after a four-year hiatus, the swanky restaurant in the 100-year-old Hotel Majestic sadly never pulled the crowds, especially in a dining climate that simply isn't conducive to (most) white tablecloth restaurants. The hotel and bar remain open, but we would like to know the fate of those two porcelain dogs.
