The Shutter: Final Tally, Q1 2009

The first quarter of 2009 is in the books, which we're guessing should come as a delight to many restaurants in town. But before we turn the page completely and look ahead towards a sunnier spring, let's take a moment to quickly reflect on the first three months of the year. The big closings were fairly limited—Azie, Bong Su, PlumpJack and Majestic lead the pack here—and though we might have missed a smaller eatery here and there (we also counted chocolatiers), our tally shows that 43 restaurants have shuttered in 2009 thus far. The full list of those who have passed away is after the jump, but before you get too consumed with gloom and doom, consider this: over 60 restaurants opened in the same period.
