ALICE'S UNIVERSE—The First Lady of Localifornia names her ten favorite "emerging" chefs. OAKLAND—BA Veg reports that Souley Vegan reopened last week in its new Jack London Square location. The vegan soul food joint shuttered its original downtown location earlier this year. 301 Broadway, at Third Street, Oakland; (510) 393-9186 [BAV]
BAY AREA—Is LA burger chain The Counter finally coming to San Francisco proper? The Corte Madera location is due in August, but more are in the works: "It will be the fifth franchise to open in the Bay Area and the first in Marin, but not for long, according to Peter Katz, managing partner of the Northern California franchise. 'If all goes well, we'd like to open more,' Katz says." Indeed, San Francisco is in their sights (along with two dozen other cities). [MIJ]
