MB finally chimes in on Oakland heavyweight Pican, where several missteps—i.e., pricey chicken, molasses-dominated ribs, fishy asparagus—ultimately get (mostly) overlooked thanks to the modern setting and warm hospitality: "Picán has become part of the fabric of an emerging neighborhood. Its appeal extends far beyond the food." A bit euphemistic, perhaps, but still good enough for 2.5 stars. [Chron]
