Eater Inside: Starbelly

The Castro: Above, take a stroll around Starbelly, the week-old eatery in the former Asqew space right off the corner of Market and 16th. In short, Castro folks should be very, very glad to have Starbelly in their neighborhood, especially once the back patio is up and running. Adam Timney is putting out an accessible, competent menu of pizza, salumi and similar comfort food, and with Deborah Blum and Adriano Paganini involved, it's a well-run operation with a definite Beretta influence too, particularly in its hangout vibe (and at peak hours, the wait). Is Starbelly a destination restaurant? Probably not, but then again, it's not necessarily trying to be one. See, legit pizzerias are the new wine bars; SF neighborhoods are now incomplete without one (NB: Starbelly has more than pizza).

Further reading on the Castro newcomer can be enjoyed in the Eater Archives, and at 7x7, Bunrab and Chron. As always, your early impressions are welcome too.
