RUMORMOGERING - Behold the return of the rumor mill. Today an angry-sounding tipster writes in authoritatively that Joe DiMaggio's Steakhouse in North Beach is closing:
They are keeping the bar open for the World Series to try and make some last minute cash to pay the staff, but when the staff mentioned picketing out front or calling kron 4 to expose their shady business practices [owner]Jeff Dudum made them promise not to so his name wouldn't get tarnished...The worst part is that many employees have been loyal to the Dudums the whole 4 years they have been open even though the paychecks always bounced and the servers couldn't collect their tips til' weeks later, yet the only thing they care about is keeping the facade of the Dudum name out of the press.Well that last part didn't work out so well. ALAMEDA - SFMOMA is getting together with ultra-arty chef collective OPENrestaurant to explore food, water, politics and art for two days at the St. George Spirits distillery. It's free and open to the public on November 12th and 13th. Find out more here. [EaterWire]
FIDI - First he hired Jeremy Fox, and now Tyler Florence continues to strengthen his arsenal. Cory Lane formerly "the man" at the Momofuku empire in NY, left a few months ago and now he'll be helping out in Ty-Flo land. Like Fox, he's got a fancy new title: Corporate Service Director, and he'll be popping up at Wayfare Tavern, El Paseo and Rotisserie and Wine. [ISSF, ENY]
