LAGNIAPPE - Chef Justin Simoneaux is currently in the kitchen at Absinthe, gearing up for the opening of Boxing Room early next year. So it's only fitting that he offer a preview of his forthcoming NOLA-inspired fare in Absinthe's private dining room. On Monday, October 18, a four-course, prix-fixe $35 menu will be offered from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. with wine pairings for an additional $15. Reserve by calling Vanessa Harris: 415-551-1453. [EaterWire]

FOOD NERDS - Can technology shape the way we eat? CHOW Editrix-in-Chief Jane Goldman, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales and several other notables will weigh in on the subject at Sunday's Food & Tech panel at the Ferry Building. There will also be tastings provided by Darwin Cafe, Spire and several others. [EaterWire]

THREE-ALARM - Last night a fire burnt Tiki Tom’s Restaurant to the ground on the Oakland waterfront. The restaurant's once-encouraging inflatable cartoon frog mascot also perished in the flames. [ISSF]
