THE MISSION - Lady Hopper has the first word on the Namu boys new spot, Namu Gaji opening in about a year. Salient details include a 45-seat mostly communal izakaya in the old Studio 3579 on Dolores. The brothers Lee will offer yakitori focused on less common -- at least here in San Francisco -- cuts of pig, chicken and fish, complimented by sake and beer. An Asian street food takeout window and an original strain of bacteria from their mother's village in Korea will also be in the mix. [Tablehopper]
THE MISSION EXTRA - Taqueria El Buen Sabor, which currently resides on Valencia Street, is taking over Nayarit Taqueria at 98 Leland Avenue and opening an El Buen Sabor #2. [GrubStreet]
NOPA - The Fulton Street Brewpub angling for the cursed space at Fulton and Masonic is still raising capital and working on the licensing. According to SFoodie, owner Ivan Hopkinson's business plan is so good that the landlord over there is signing on as an investor. Hopkinson may, however, decide to open his concept on Market Street, where the city is offering up hefty loan incentives as part of its revitalization plan. Wherever the brewpub lands, there shall be flagship ales, seasonal brews and sustainable bar fare like free-range Buffalo wings and Prather Ranch burgers. [SFoodie]
CASTRO - The 30,000-square-foot Whole Foods store planned for the former S&C Ford location at Market and Dolores has hit a stumbling block with the City Planning Department. Currently, they're requiring the plan to include a pay-only parking lot in order to mitigate potential traffic flow problems. Whole Foods folks feel this would create a competitive burden, which is certainly true considering Safeway down the street has a free parking lot. The Chron also notes Trader Joe's walked away from its plan to open on Market do to a similar pre-construction SNAFU. So this conversation will certainly continue. [Chron]
CASTRO EXTRA - Lady Hopper also brings news that Sushi Sumi will be taken over by another sushi contender, currently called Takara Sushi SF. [Tablehopper]
SAUSALITO - Neighborhood game changer The Plate Shop has moved its intended "Fall" opening to "early December." Refresher: this is the garden-centric idea from former Aqua executive sous chef Kim Alter. [GrubStreet]
NOE VALLEY - The Paxti's Pizza moving in on 24th Street has been delayed since we last reported. Signore Lucchesi hears tell of a possible December 1 opening date. This one is going to look a bit more like the current Fillmore Street location than the one in Hayes Valley. [ISSF]
BERNAL HEIGHTS - Belinda's Club has been purchased and will turn into something called The Royal Cuckoo. [GrubStreet]
