Last night, Robert Lauriston revealed his somewhat shocking plan to close his barely four-month-old restaurant Locanda da Eva on Telegraph in Berkeley. Blaming a style of cuisine that wasn't the right fit for the neighborhood, Lauriston says he won't be trying again and Sunday will be the last day in business. He's headed back to the world of tech writing and the space has been put on the market.
This all feels quite sudden considering the restaurant just emerged from a redesign a week ago. We can't help thinking of Bauer's statement that he won't be reviewing the restaurant, which hit the inter web on Wednesday. It's very likely that played a part in this decision. Quite the strident reminder that a critic's voice has enough power to tip the scales in any direction.
