All Six Bay Area DeLano's Face 99.99% Chance of Closure

Sad times for the DeLano's fan club today as we learn of not one, but a full-on impending fold of all six Bay Area locations of the unabashedly cheap and once-cheerful grocery chain. The manager on duty today at the South Van Ness mart said, "The Castro, Van Ness and Geary Street locations have all lost their leases" and he's "99.99.99% sure they're closing. [insert helpless chuckle]"

As for the Marin locations in Tiburon, Mill Valley and Fairfax, well those are all in the same boat. Adding to the scenes from the last days of DeLano, The Richmond Blog posts images of "gaping holes in the milk, bread and egg aisle" at the Outer Richmond location. And an Eater tipster who trolled the aisles at the Castro market on Saturday adds "They were already out of a couple things - eggs, certain brands of dairy products." The DeLano's web site's got nothing, as in it is now officially void of content. So the looming death of DeLano is now as sure a bet as the rise of sprightly British chain Fresh & Easy. The Bay Area grocery-scape is headed for some seemingly major changes, indeed.
