Ike Shehadeh -- a man almost as well known for his NIMBY problems as his saucy crack-esque sandwiches -- has gained approval to operate an Ike's Place outpost at the Cesar Chavez Student Center at San Francisco State University. The shop should be up and running before January ends. But the much bigger news will come after his meeting with the Planning Commission today. Remember Ike applied to operate out of the old Joseph Schmidt Confections spot. It's brazenly situated right across the street from his former location, which enjoyed the rare pleasure of shuttering not once, but twice.
According to the Bay Citizen he has oodles of signatures and letters supporting his return and the landlord is on board this time. But we have no intel on the neighbors on this side of the street, namely which camp they fall into: Ike lovers? or Ike haters? The unknown NIMBY factor will weigh heavily with the commission and could even be a deciding factor. Stay tuned for developments.
