A few openings scatter about the land this week. Here's a little update to keep you current. As always, do let us know if there's a restaurant or food business opening near you we should know about.
1) Nob Hill: We revealed most of the important details on Contraband Coffee back in June. Since that time, the planned August opening has experienced its fair share of delays, but owner Josh Magnani tells us they should really be ready to unveil their pride and glory: the first hand-built Synesso Hydra espresso machine in the Bay Area, to the public this Thursday. Other Contraband highlights include rotating local art exhibits, sidewalk seating and pastry case offerings from Mission Beach Cafe,Dynamo Donuts, Peasant Pies and NUCHA Empanadas. Hours: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mon. to Sat. and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sun. [EaterWire]
2) The Sunset: Now what's with the waffle sandwich trend? Hot on the heels of the Brass Knuckle truck news, we learn of Dash Cafe from Thrillist. The new Inner Sunset Cafe vends sandwiches that sub savory waffles for bread. Take this menu item: a waffle laden with smoked salmon and cream cheese, as your example. We look forward to seeing how this plays out. [Thrillist]
3) Peninsula: The Gator's at the Grill venture we mentioned a week ago opened yesterday. BunRab has some food porn on the subject. And Chowhound has a menu and some early positive reports. [BunRab, Chowhound]
