The Summer of Bauer embraces his hippie side and heads to Berkeley's Gather, the new spot in the David Brower Center. Heading the kitchen there is Millennium vet Sean Baker, and though the politics of the plate are evident throughout, Baker's passion also comes through: "In many regards the restaurant is so politically correct it feels like a vegetarian restaurant in sheep's clothing ... Baker, despite cooking without meat for several years, has the carnivore items down pat ... It all creates an aura that's a little strident, earthy-crunchy and PC chic." Final tally: 2.5 stars.
