Every indication is that there will be at least a small season for big Chinook salmon in Northern California this year. The sport season officially opens April 3rd, and heavy precipitation has meant politicians have backed off efforts to divert more water from local rivers to Central Valley farmers. Public hearings in Eureka are set for March 30th, with a final decision by the Pacific Fishery Management Council due by May 1st on possible May 9th commercial season kickoff.
