Sonoma-based wine publicist Tom Wark, lambastes a recent initiative proposing a 12,675% increase in the wine bottle tax. The motion’s neo-prohibitionist sponsors, Josephine and Kent Whitney, who are currently gathering signatures for California’s November ballot, list 12 totally absurd reasons the legislation should be passed. Among them: The last alcoholic beverage tax increase in California was in 1992. To which Wark replies: Good point! What about a 5% increase? To which we reply: Yeah, what he said. [Fermentation]
