Yesterday, Michael Bauer filed his review on Charlie Hallowell's second Oakland pizza restaurant, Boot and Shoe Service, giving it two and a half stars. Salads "hold their own," burrata practically "melts on the plate like the Wicked Witch of the West," and eight kinds of pizza and Blue Bottle coffee are offered. Bauer describes the nettle pizza where the leaves are kept intact "so you can taste the rich spinach-like flavor, modulated by thin shavings of ricotta salata cheese." The only thing possibly missing, he opines, is a shoe shine. [SF Chronicle]
