SOUTH PARK - Nate Pollak and Heidi Gibson of The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen are gunning for a May 10 opening in the former tobacco warehouse at 1 South Park. Gibson, the reigning Grilled Cheese Invitational Champion will be serving a menu of 7-9 seasonal grilled cheese creations, like asparagus-fontina-Meyer lemon-poached egg, for $7-9 on breads that will mostly be sourced from Potrero’s Pinkie’s Bakery. The 900-square-foot interior is shaping up as a hip ode to Americana, designed by Wylie Price, who also did Monk’s Kettle. Inside will be 18 bar-top seats, and a mural by Drew Bennett. Further hipness will be found on AGCK’s 24-seat heated sidewalk patio on 2nd street. You can help the twosome get more moolah for the costly business build-out by voting for them in this here contest. [EaterWire]
COW HOLLOW -- A resourceful tipster pointed out Roam Artisan Burgers has applied for ownership of the 1785 Union St. space that housed Skipjack Sushi. Check out the preliminary design sketches here. Abueg Morris also designed Nopalito, so it looks like it's gonna be swank. But will it be affordable? Lord knows, the hood needs that. If you know anything, do send a tip. [EaterWire]
COW HOLLOW EXTRA -- The huge, vacant former Bayside Bar & Grill space on Union has a new permit on the window. The owners of Monaghan's on Pierce are involved and it looks like the name will be Union Street Grill. Your insight much appreciated at sf@eater.com [EaterWire]
MISSION -- Former Poleng Lounge owner Desi Danganan is mulling over mood boards and color schemes for The Summit, his cafe, bar, and "third space" currently under construction in the IO Ventures incubation space. Creativity abounds. [TSB]
SOMA -- The tipline is on fire(!) with news that What's Up Dog? is coming back to SOMA. There's a sign in the window on the SW corner of Folsom and 3rd. [EaterWire]
THE SUNSET -- Lady T-Hop tells us Social Kitchen & Brewery got their brewer's permit and will be soft-opening on April 20. As we mentioned a while back, the vegan-, vegetarian-, and meat-lover-friendly menu will feature beer as an ingredient in several dishes. Social is still waiting for their State ABC license, so we hope the opening doesn't get pushed back further. [TH]
