Final inspections are taking place at The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen as we write this post, and owners Nate Pollack and Heidi Gibson should know if they'll be opening next week for lunch by the end of today. Meanwhile, we have this visual taste of the burst of Americana coming soon to South Park -- a project that ended up 70K over budget and was funded with the help of VerticalResponse. The design sense of Wylie Price (Presidio Social Club, The Monk's Kettle) is at work here in light fixtures made from recycled milk bottles, reclaimed woodwork, robin's egg blue tiles and this whole 1950s kitchenette-meets-modern loft feel.
Inspectors willing, AGCK will start serving lunch next week, including some of Gibson's award winners from previous Grilled Cheese Invitationals. The Mousetrap, with sharp cheddar, havarti, and jack on Pinkie's Bakery levain will be a menu fixture, as will a signature tomato soup touched with pimenton and Basque pepper. Breakfast and evening service are coming in June along with savory bread puddings, a brie and challah French toast breakfast beauty with seasonal fruit, and way more.
