THE MISSION - Our un-summer-like summer doesn't seem to keep local restaurants from their summer-themed promotions, like Mission Beach Cafe's BBQ Tuesdays, which consist of a special BBQ-focused menu offered every Tuesday from June 1 until Oct. 27. Owner Bill Clarke is also keen enough to realize Memorial Day is perfect for the theme, so he's doing a preview on Monday. Here's the press release, which includes a menu and all the facts. And we'll leave the visual and descriptive rundown of menu highlights to our friends over at Knuckle Sandwick. [EaterWire]
FOOD WARS- Tickets have just started selling for Carl and Sharon Sutton's 4th annual chili cook-off between Alembic, Bar Tartine, Magnolia, Maverick, OTD Bush, and The Pizza Place on Noriega. Yes this is a contest, and yes you are curious what The Pizza Place on Noriega will whip up. It takes place on June 20th at Elk Glen Picnic Area from 2-5 p.m. and $25 covers all-you-can eat chili and two glasses of Sutton Cellars wine. Purchase tickets via PayPal by sending money to winevine@sonic.net. [EaterWire]
CHARITY CASE- The list of Bay Area restaurants participating in Dine Out for the Gulf Coast is too long to put here, but it spans the likes of Delfina, Slanted Door, RN74 and Bottega. José Andrés is chairing the event with the support of his Think Food Group. He and organizer Jimmy Galle of Sausalito's Gulfish have done a good job of rallying the troops in a very grass-roots way. The fund-raising event will take place from June 10-12, benefiting The Gulf Coast Oil Spill Fund. All the details are still coming into place, but if you're a restaurant that's feeling the pain of the Gulf Coast and would like to get involved, do send Jimmy Gale an email. [EaterWire]
