The Big Reveal on Contraband Coffee Bar

New, 2 comments

Here we are inside the emptied out John Barleycorn space, with new details regarding Contraband Coffee Bar, posting up for a mid-July opening here. A Facebook page was erected yesterday; and Josh Magnani, stalwart Mission Beach Cafe barista, has revealed himself as the second owner, along with photographer Ron Starr. Extra excitement comes in the form of their newly acquired Hydra, Synesso's newest espresso machine, and the proprietary coffee blends and single origin espresso they'll be offering with the help of a small roaster in Oakland.

Peasant pies and empanadas will be locally sourced, and Mission Beach Cafe will fill out the rest of the pastry case. Architect Tom Di Santo is helping with the build out of the 30-seat space. Yes it will include a communal table; and no, Luisa Hanson is not involved. Contraband negotiated the lease with a bank trustee, now managing Hanson's estate. [EaterWire]
