Tony Gemignani Lets Details Fly: Pizza, Italian Beef, MORE!

New, 5 comments

NORTH BEACH - As Yelp launches in Germany and Facebook signs on its half-billionth friend, Tony of Tony's Pizza Napoletana is finally ready to talk about his big future plans for the La Spiaggia space with Signore Lucchesi over at ISSF. You see, Tony has been asking his people in the neighborhood what they want; and he's giving it to them: New York-style pizza, Roman-style pizza (offered by the meter), Chicago-style Italian beef sandwiches and the likes of which you'd find in many a New York deli: chicken parm, meatball subs and grinders. Interestingly, he's also claiming to bring the first coal-burning oven to Northern California. According to GrubStreet, Tony is sweetening the deal by hiding tickets under 100 pizzas starting this Friday. Lucky ticket finders will be granted sneak peak access to the new spot, which still remains nameless as of today. [ISSF, GrubStreet]

THE MISSION - Meanwhile in the Mission, everyone is getting antsy about the first community market tomorrow. From 4 to 8 p.m., live music, mural painting, craft vendors, Capoeira and food carts from La Cocina will all be in full effect. Oh yes, and fresh produce too. [Mission Mission, Uptown Almanac]

POTRERO HILL - Chef Jehangir Mehta, “The Next Iron Chef” runner-up and executive chef/owner of Graffiti in New York City is leading "The Kids Food Adventure with Chef Jehangir" at Whole Foods in Potrero Hill this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It includes an interactive store tour and cooking demos aimed to help kids and parents make healthier food choices. Register by sending an email to this address. [EaterWire]

OIL SPILL - Tomorrow Scoma's will have its second lunch to benefit the United Commercial Fisherman’s Association in Louisiana, and the Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen in San Francisco. The menu costs $23.95 and includes valet parking. Remember Scoma's is one of the top-grossing restaurants in San Francisco, so now's a better time than any to check it out. [EaterWire]
