THE SUNSET - We've got an update for you on Pasión, the modern Latin restaurant coming from Fresca chef owner Jose Calvo-Perez. He's just back from a research trip to Lima, Peru and is fired up about opening, albeit delayed, in mid-September. He tells us the menu, where influences come from all over the map, will include things like traditional Peruvian anticuchos (street food), such as beef hearts grilled over his charcoal grill; Spanish-style lamb albondigas with shaved truffle and manchego; a modernized, deconstructed lomo saltado with Kobe beef; and a version of arroz con pato with duck confit, cilantro-infused rice and green pea veloute. He's got a liquor license, so you can expect pisco cocktails; and the "extensive" wine list will focus on Latin American, Spanish, Portuguese and domestic offerings. Right now, they're in the final stages: tiling the floors and painting the walls. A ceviche bar, booze bar, breakfast and lunch are all part of the eventual plan. [EaterWire]
BERKELEY - Says SFoodie, The K2 Restaurant Group, which owns Lalime's, Fonda and Sea Salt, is poised to open a wood-fired, thin crust pizza place called Paisan at 2514-2516 San Pablo Avenue in South Berkeley. And since we always talk about the ovens at these places, we'll tell you this one will be a two-sided gent, accessible from inside and outside: a fitting innovation for this pizza-crazed day and age. [SFoodie]
JEREMY FOX WIRE - Those of you itching to know what's up with Jeremy Fox and Daniel Patterson's impending Oakland Plum project should just go taste for yourself. Every Monday from now on, the duo will be serving four-course Plum practice dinners for $45 at Il Cane Rosso in the Ferry Building. And Signore Lucchesi reports the real Oakland version of Plum should be opening in September, not summer as we thought before. [ISSF]
THE MISSION - B Cubed/B³: your future bearer of "out there" wines, burgers and possibly this menu here that GrubStreet has so nicely offered; has finished building out the wine bar area that will be available for walk-ins at the front of the restaurant. They also decided last night to incorporate wine barrels into the interior design and are right on track for the August 4th opening. [EaterWire]
SOMA- Bar Agricole is putting in the chandeliers today. So you can bank on seeing those when they open in August. [EaterWire]
UNION SQUARE - We recently checked in with The Mina Group re: possible steakhouse plans for the Westin space. As you'll recall, they were supposed to resolve issues with the labor union in June. But they've told us they're currently in a holding pattern and unavailable for comment. So there's that. [EaterWire]
