THE MISSION - A while ago, GrubStreet pointed us to the new Web site and some additional color on Farina's forthcoming pizzeria, Antica Pizzeria Napoletana. And today, APN personnel are telling us the opening has been pushed to September or October and that we should expect "amazing pizza, a great beer list and outdoor seating.” There's also talk of a separate channel for takeout: a window, perhaps? [EaterWire]
HAYES VALLEY - Fans of the Fatted Calf locations at the Ferry Plaza and in Napa will delight to know owner Taylor Boetticher's Hayes Valley shop is getting close. In his words, they've reached the "holy shit this looks like a store!" phase; most of the build-out is complete and they should be opening mid-September. The space has been designed by Wylie Price -- who did The American Grilled Cheese, Presidio Social Club and others -- incorporating Heath tiles, Arborica wood and a refurbished vintage Wedgewood stove into the design, so it's bound to be chic in the SF way. In addition to selling the usual charcuterie offerings, Prather beef, Andante cheese and meat products from Riverdog Farms and Hudson Ranch, they'll have a walk-in cooler proudly displaying beef quarters and hanging whole pigs. There will also be a healthy dose of to-go options like a pork bollito misto sandwich with horseradish salsa verde, rotating vegetarian bruschetta options and meatloaf sandwiches on Della Fattoria semolina Pullman. SAUSALITO - The opening of former Aqua chef Kim Alter's garden-centric Plate Shop , which was supposed to open mid-summer, has been delayed to late September/early October. [EaterWire]
UNION SQUARE - Chuck Siegel, owner of the Charles Chocolates retail store on the third floor of Westfield San Francisco Centre, just signed a 10-year lease to build a flagship retail store and 5,000 sq ft open kitchen on the fourth floor of the same building. The retail portion will open in November with the open kitchen following in January. According to the press release we got today, Charles Chocolates created the country's "first completely open artisan chocolate kitchen" four years ago in Emeryville. Part deux will offer the complete chocolate selection, handmade ice cream, housemade pastries and an espresso bar. [EaterWire]
OAKLAND - The EBX has leaked news about House of Shields former owner Alexeis Filipello's plans to open Bar Dogwood at 1644 Telegraph Avenue. She's thinking -- new niche alert! -- "art deco hunter's lodge" meets "working-man's bar" with affordable meats and cheeses, acoustic acts and/or magicians. Bonkers. [EBX]
HEALDSBURG - Doug Keane spilled the beans on his new steakhouse next door to Cyrus to Zagat over the weekend. It will be called Shimo, which means frost in Japanese and sounds way better than "Frost" as a restaurant name. So this isdefinitely going to be an outside-the-box steakhouse, with slight Japanese influences, Sunday brunch and a modern interior. We're still looking at a December opening. [Zagat]
SAN MATEO - Reservations are currently being accepted for Osteria Coppa, opening next Wednesday at 139 South B Street. Remember this is the spot from chef Chanan Kamen (Quince, Jardinere, Tabla, Picholine) with handmade pizza and pasta. Paul and Julie Shenkman of Sam's Chowder House and Lewis Rossman of Cetrella in Half Moon Bay are also partners in the venture. Look out for an Italian cocktail list, wines by the quartino and a largish space with a 40-seat outdoor patio and a 40-seat bar area. [EaterWire]
CASTRO - Construction has begun in the shuttered Gelateria Naia space in the Castro. If you've got intel on who's moving in there do send us a clue.
CASTRO EXTRA - Meanwhile, back at Cork, which GrubStreet and yours truly told you about in January, appears to have died on the vine. A tipster writes in that the permit signs on the window have been replaced by For Lease signs. Again, tell us if you see anything good happening over there. [EaterWire]
