I Love Blue Sea Offers Local Discount For Sustainable Seafood

New, 1 comment

Bringing sustainability into the wide world of internet mail-order seafood is Potrero Hill-based purveyor I Love Blue Sea. They've been at it since March and just started offering special discounts to San Francisco residents who are willing to pickup orders from their local warehouse partner. Here's how it works. Go to the Web site to choose from the 75 + products founder Martin Reed sources; enter code: welovelocals (one word) at check-out; receive 20% off your seafood order.

The only catch is you then have to go pickup your order on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at the ABS Seafood Warehouse, making this sort of like a CSA, but without the annoying pay-up-front, no-idea-what-you're-going-to-get parts. Other upsides include fresher fish and a larger variety than what you'll find at the supermarket, competitive prices and full fishing method disclosure. Partner Andrew Nicholas tells us they have the largest variety of oysters available anywhere on the internet and they get a new shipment in daily, including local gems from Point Reyes. Other hometown favorites include sardines and albacore loin, which Nicholas likes to slice raw and eat sashimi-style. [EaterWire]
