Papparazzo Bauer is giddy as a school boy before dining out at Tyler Florence's Wayfare Tavern for this Sunday's review, and the "masculine American" decor, "puffy" popovers and "sea-breeze-fresh sardines" continue to stoke his fire. Then there are some missteps, like a "tepid halibut" and crumbly chicken pot pie, balanced out by a "masterpiece" steak tartare and steak and eggs that's a "mess on a plate" in a good way. Really the review is all over the place and TyFlo gets the San Francisco welcome with a Baueriffic 2.5. [Chron]
Patty Untz Untz finished strong last week with not one, but two reviews on San Francisco pizza newbie, Zero Zero, and our latest ramen addition, Ippuku, in Berkeley. At the former, Bruce Hill's margherita extra pizza is "perfection," while the Castro sounds like it needs a little more time. Still, "Zero Zero has the scope, location and quality to become an enduring culinary institution." Meanwhile in Berkeley, Ms. Unterman gets all the "skin, cartilage, gizzard, livers, [and] thighs" she was hoping for from the "cutting-edge yakitori" where "Geideman’s cooking is pure Japanese."
