Alexander's Steakhouse; Contraband Coffee and MORE

SOMA - Bacar replacement Alexander's Steakhouse is upon us, with an opening day of Monday announced via Inside Scoop today. Remember partner Jeffrey Stout will be chef here and this is the second outpost of a successful operation that's been open for five years in Cupertino. The menu is American with Japanese flair, including items like Hokkaido scallops with kaiware salad, grilled T-bone with salt trio and wood-roasted halibut with Mendocino uni butter; so it sounds as if this will fall closer to the forthcoming steakhouses from Michael Mina and Douglas Keane, as opposed to the Bobo's and Harris' out there. And yes this here manly signage marks the spot. [ISSF, EaterWire]

TENDERLOIN - Some of you have expressed concern that Contraband Coffee -- that third-wave coffee vendor coming to the sorely missed John Barleycorn locale -- was a still born. Indeed they have missed the stated mid-July opening goal, but not to fear. SFist noted the Facebook , explaining the opening has been pushed to September thanks to permitting delays. Contraband personnel do want to assure that Luisa Hanson has left the building! [SFist, Facebook]

THE MISSION- Where there was once Sundance Cafe on Harrison and 24th, a Cafe Bello shall grow, according to SFoodie's report. The Sundance in the Dogpatch is allegedly not in danger. Look for your new purveyor of joe and coffee shop snackage in early October. [SFoodie]

POLK STREET - Mark's Bar will be taking over the former Lush Lounge space at Post Street. Owner Mark Aloiau "Likes" FarmVille, Ryan Seacrest and Vampire Wars on Facebook, which gives us no idea as to what he'll do with this concept here. Or does it? [GrubStreet, Facebook]

EMBARCADERO - Here's a peek behind the parking lot at the Ferry Building, in case your were wondering what's happening there now. Carnelian by the Bay will be going into the World Trade Club -- once called "San Francisco's premier international business association" -- with a projected (soft-)opening as early as October. This will be more of a lounge with TVs, wine bar and a nice Bay view; Upstairs there's a 250-seat dining area for private events. [ISSF]

WINE COUNTRY - Yountville's Somerston Wine Company will open a very special sounding market, with freshly butchered meat, organic produce and such, next to their tasting room later this year. Other things like cheese, pre-prepared meals and a CSA program will be offered as well. [ISSF]
