The first SF restaurant known to 100% theme itself out like a carnival, Straw opens tonight in Hayes Valley. Everyone's already talking about the Tilt-a-Whirl booth, but other things like the cotton candy machine, mason jar light fixtures and a bar stocked with bowls of candy are mighty playful as well. So what does one eat at such a place? Well there's the Bearded Lady with pulled pork and blackberry coulis and then about 35 other similarly creative sandwiches. GrubStreet has the opening menu here, which shall lean heavily towards the cuisine of New Orleans Jazz Fest for the coming months.
Showing their humanitarian side, the owners considered vegans, vegetarians and gluten-free eaters on the menus and if you guess the amount of your check, you win a free meal or stuffed animal.
