From Saturday's NY Times bit on Dennis Leary, we learn the hole-in-the-wall sandwich joint he opened to rave reviews in 2008, was really his means to watch the neighboring House of Shields daily and get an angle on the lease he knew would end in 2010. So there's the meaning behind The Sentinel's name. Apparently the building owners were so impressed by Leary, they gave him the House of Shields lease over experienced barman H. Joseph Ehrmann of Elixir. A juicy backstory! [NY Times]
