The week, Off The Grid adds a location at Fifth and Mission Streets to its ever-growing, always unpredictable "roaming mobile food extravaganza." This new edition is named Off The Grid: 5M after the nascent Intersection 5M where it's posting up. Every Wednesday from here on out, Hapa SF, Kung Fu Tacos, Southern Sandwich Co., Curry Up Now, and Seoul on Wheels plan to show up from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Two more trucks are currently waiting in the wings as they attempt to nail down their permits. Off The Grid founder Matt Cohen is very excited to operate in an area with shelter and may even add more days to the schedule here if demand is high.
Cohen's also spreading the word that the call for applications for new vendors for his Fort Mason behemoth is open until this Friday. Who are they looking for? "Any aspiring street vendors looking to sell from a tent to a truck," says Cohen. Do take note the Fort Mason edition, orchestrated in conjunction with La Cocina, is confined to Latin and Asian food concepts or creative takes thereof. The Creme Brulee Cart is there, for example, but he serves pina colada and dulce de leche flavors to fit the theme. Off the Grid Fort Mason will return on a TBD Friday in the middle of March.
