Hapa Ramen Goes Permanent, Gingerfruit Closed Now, More

New, 2 comments

THE SHUTTER - The Castro's four-month-old Asian tapas restaurant Gingerfruit has a sign in the window announcing that the restaurant is "closed until further notice." Remember Home Restaurant also just closed across the street in August. Tough times in the Castro. [EaterWire]

FILLMORE - It's been almost a year and a half since Nopa sous chef Richie Nakano and bartender Kitty Galissa started Hapa Ramen, and now Inside Scoop reports that they'll be opening permanent spin-off Hapa—not to be confused with Hapa SF—on Fillmore St. in the spring of next year. It'll be right next to State Bird Provisions, which should make for a nice little culinary vortex on Lower Fillmore. [ISSF]

PLYWOOD UPDATE - It appears as if Biergarten could open any day now in Hayes Valley: the new crew of Biergarten are training in the space as we speak...counting down the days!! biergartensf.com. [Twitter]

LOWER HAIGHT - Eat at the lovely Uva Enoteca tonight in the Lower Haight and 50% of sales will go to the Haight and Fillmore Fire Fund. Here's a little more on that, over at Haighteration. [EaterWire]

WINE COUNTRY - This unseasonal rain is causing quite the panic in Napa and Sonoma. The optimistic are hoping for a "Bourdeaux-like" crop of wines coming out of this year's harvest: "low yields, high acidity, lower-than-normal alcohol, good balance, and ageworthiness." [Decanter]
