Andronico's will be closing its Berkeley University Ave. location, and the owners, Berkeley Bazaar Partners, are already in talks to bring in another grocery outlet. This news comes right after word that the Andronico's has been purchased to save it from bankruptcy, so this is part of the restructuring of the chain. This outpost had the weakest sales out of the four Berkeley Andronico's, and clearly couldn't hold up to the competition set by the nearby Trader Joe's, Berkeley Bowl, and Grocery Outlet. Some rumormongerers are saying Fresh & Easy is eyeing the location. [B]
