Yesterday The Feast passed on word that Recchiuti's new chocolate concept in the former Piccino space (801 22nd St.) will be called Recchiuti Chocolate Lab, not to be confused with the dog by the same name. When it opens in May, Chocolate Lab will serve savory items like tartine, charcuterie and cheese plates, in addition to the expected chocolate desserts, baked goods, and sweets. There will be beer and wine on hand to go with all of it, and Michael Recchiuti will also take the opportunity to sell the Recchiuti ice creams he's been working on. Exciting.
For (much) more immediate gratification, you can check out Recchiuti's Little Nib Pop-Up Shop, opening tomorrow just down 22nd street at the intersection with Tennessee St. The shop (pictured) offers a taste of what Recchiuti has at the Ferry Building: fleur de sel caramels, wine and beer pairing boxes, dessert sauces and the brand's new line of chocolate bars. Hours will be Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. are TBD for now through New Year's Eve. There may be another Valentine's Day pop-up in 2012, and then the shop will go permanent along with Chocolate Lab's opening in May. At that time, The Little Nib will morph into a cafe and retail operation, with a sweet and savory menu, chocolates by-the-piece, and packaged baked goods. In the meantime, it's probably a good place to consider for holiday gifts.
