The Dr's Will Come Back as Doctor's Lounge with Cathead's BBQ and Beer On-Tap

New, 4 comments

Out in Excelsior, change is afoot at 60-year-old neighborhood fixture The Dr's née Question Mark Club. A note on the door explains that the last owners, who've run the place since 1988, have retired, and new owners (and former avid Chowhounders) Rochelle McCune and David Henry have taken over. Understanding the bar and restaurant's importance as a neighborhood brunch staple and provider of family-style Thursday night dinners, McCune and Henry are keeping both traditions intact.

They have, however, brought in new chef Damon Bruner to spruce up the weekend brunch/lunch menu with an egg sandwich, an egg carbonara and other things. Additionally, those wondering where Cathead's BBQ will pop-up since The Corner went belly up, will be happy to know Henry has given them full reign over weekday lunch and dinner operations (except for Thursdays, when they do the family-style thing). Since Doctor's huge bar takes up at least half of the space, Cathead's chef-owner team is also working on a menu of bar bites.

Besides the much-needed fresh paint job and updated kitchen, other new things include six beers on tap (Radeberger, Hoegaarden, and Big Daddy among them), flat-screen TVs for game-watchers, a new cocktail list, and a new menu for Saturday and Sunday nights with a TBA chef. "We're talking to some pop-up chefs," says Henry, "and things will change with them as we progress." Also note the original Dr's opened on 8/8/88, and Doctor's Lounge is keeping the lucky opening day tradition alive too. Their official grand opening is planned for 11/11/11.
