Chef David Kinch — of the two-Michelin star restaurant Manresa in Los Gatos — has been declared "Chef of the Year" in GQ magazine's "Annual Men of the Year Issue." The article, which has a sweet shot of Kinch al fresco at his restaurant's Love Apple Farm, has more than a few good points to back up its choice: 1) Eric Ripert of Michelin three-star Le Bernardin in New York says Kinch is "out of this planet" and Alain Passard of three-star L'Arpège in Paris adds, "he has the most beautiful hand in the States." 2) On his Iron Chef America appearance: "He beat Bobby Flay—'I kicked his ass,' he allows. 3) And perhaps most endearing of all: "In a world of Molto food empires and spiky-haired TV hosts, David Kinch is an anomaly: a man who labors intensely, day after day, in a single restaurant and a single garden, quietly inventing a new kind of cooking and dazzling anyone lucky enough to sit at his table."
