RIBS - Willie Brown thinks its fine if you want to go on a rib crawl instead of indulging in turkey for Thanksgiving. If you don't want to hit his preferred Hillstone, he recs Baby Blues ("I couldn’t help myself; I ate it all with my fingers") or 1300 on Fillmore ("you also get corn bread"). [ISSF]
HEALTH-CARE - Over the past few months, several issues with San Francisco's Healthy SF surcharge have come to light: 1) many employers were pocketing unclaimed employee funds at the end of the year and 2) many employees didn't know how to tap into the funds set aside for them. Prior to his recent election Mayor Ed Lee hedged he would address the issue, and yesterday he signed off on a bill that attempts to solve the two main problems above, although almost half of the Supes think the law doesn't go far enough. So the story's not over yet. [Examiner via SFist]
LOGS OF JOY - As former Manresa pastry chef Belinda Leong continues to search for a permanent patisserie location in the city, she's decided to start taking pre-orders for holiday bûche de Noël—a.k.a. yule logs— for pickup in the two days leading up to Christmas. The descriptions for the three different flavor options include words like glaçage, Guanaja, caramel buerre salé, and other delicious things that are hard to pronounce. Take a look at the full run-down on pricing, ordering and pick-up over on Facebook. [EaterWire]
EXPANSION WIRE - Katana-Ya (430 Geary) has a private dining room with a separate kitchen in the works a few doors down from its current location. They hope it will be open early next year. [Tablehopper]
CRITICS PICKS - SFBG's Virginia Miller shares some of her favorite new breakfast and brunch bites around town. Baker and Banker's (1701 Octavia St.) house-smoked trout on latkes, Little Griddle's (1400 Market St.) massive griddle cakes, and The Pastry Cupboard's (1596 Market St.) cherry chocolate strudel are among the champs.
