Today we get some clarity on Roostertail, the new rotisserie-chicken-centric concept coming to the former Cafe Kati space on Sutter St. The project comes from former Chapeau! cook Tracy Green and former Bix executive chef Gerard Darian, who also operated a FiDi sandwich shop called Birley until it closed recently. His chickens will be air-chilled, free-range numbers from Mary's Chickens, serving as the signature item for this fast-casual concept. Similar to Tyler Florence's Rotisserie and Wine, the idea is to be both "upscale" and quick. The kind of place you'll want to hit for a nicely prepared, balanced meal during the week.
In addition to the chickens, wings in a special green sauce, beef brisket and sandwiches on Acme bread will be offered. Artisan-y things like housemade pickles and an extensive list of seasonal sides will presumably speak to those omnipresent locavore types. You can catch the full menu right here. Since desserts aren't on there, we'll tell you a root beer float made with draft soda and Straus soft serve will be offered. So you can now deduce, beer, wine and soft-serve will all be on tap.
As far as the build-out goes, we're told changes are substantial since the Cafe Kati days. The dining room has been modified to feature walnut wood tables and chairs, and a punch of color from red bar stools at an attention grabbing, HDTV-bedecked black granite bar. Roostertail will open on Dec. 7, with the outdoor patio coming back soon thereafter. Hours shall be Mon. to Sat. from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
