After a very busy soft-launch brunch service this weekend, the Square Meals and Batter Bakery mashup cafe opens today on Polk Street. Eater shared the story of the startup earlier: how the owners of both businesses came together to create this all-day eatery, serving locally sourced prepared foods and sweets. Now you can peruse the opening menu here and take a look inside above. Both sweet and savory options rotate weekly in the display cases, and they've got a liquor license, so you can sip two wines on tap (Qupe Syrah, Silvertap Sauv. Blanc), and 5 different "smaller batch" bottled beers, starting now.
As of this month, the shop closes at 8 p.m. daily (6 p.m. on Sundays), but co-owner Jen Musty says, come January, they're looking to open later on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. "We'll serve tapas-style plates and I'll venture into more plated desserts," she says. The goal is to provide a much more laid back evening hang than Royal Oak, Tonic and the other nearby spots.
