R Bar Guys Ready Wreck Room, Cupcakes to Japantown, More

New, 3 comments

NOB HILL - Remember for a moment R Bar owners Tod Alsman and Chris Fogarty have been building out a bar at the old Nob Hill Tavern Sports Bar on California Street. Well now according to the Entertainment Commission, the name appears to be Wreck Room (not the Pour of yore) and an active license to operate with a pool table has been issued. There's also rumor of shuffleboard, a Pop-A-Shot and our in-house Eater psychic is predicting it will be quite fratty. Opening should not be far off. We'll gladly accept images or intel from the front lines on this matter. [EaterWire]

JAPANTOWN - Cako Bakery has lots of fake cupcakes lining the windows at its second location in Japan Center and will likely open doors for business soon. So. Sushi + cupcakes, do we like this? [The Feast]

DESIGN DISTRICT - Source, "food that loves you," is coming to Division and DeHaro in March. They will have a gas-fired pizza oven surrounded by a dragon head sculpture, an "iridescent elixir bar" and an 8×10 foot water wall. More here. [ISSF]

MISSION - We passed on most of the details on Pronto by Bar Bambino at the Oberlin Dance Collective (ODC) a bit ago, but now according to Zagat the opening has been pushed from winter to May. The adjacent grab-and-go kiosk will probably open mid-March and will serve Sightglass Coffee. [Zagat, EaterWire, earlier]

CASTRO - The Mollie Stone's coming to the shuttered DeLano's at 4201 18th St. was just issued its temporary permit, so that's getting closer to opening as well. [EaterWire, NBC Bay Area, earlier]

BBQ - Southpaw BBQ will be joining the burgeoning BBQ scene with a planned opening in the Hong Kong Express Café space at 2170 Mission Street. [GrubStreet]

SAUSALITO - Plate Shop has opened, Bar Bocce is coming in March and now Signore Lucchesi tells of Salito's, a "250-seat crab house and prime rib restaurant" in the huge Paradise Bay space on the water. The turnover probably won't happen until April. [ISSF]

BURGERS!- Five Guys will open outposts in Santa Rosa, San Mateo, San Jose and Fremont in the next three months as they zero on San Francisco for a future location and then shoot for world domination. [ISSF]

YERBA BUENA - The Adam Jed Bluestem steakhouse we've been following since the summer of '09, is now moving forward again. They've dropped the steakhouse portion of the name and have wisely chosen to call themselves an "American brasserie" instead. They'll focus on whole (grass-fed) animals and an all-day European refined menu with rustic touches. The chef decision should also be released soon. Lady Hopper has more on what's happening with the build-out and decor. [Tablehopper]
