An update is in order on the forthcoming Oxbow Public Market project from the ex-Martini House team of chef Todd Humpries and Richard Miyashiro. Press people are now telling the world about the duo's forthcoming "One-of-a-Kind Social Gathering Place" to be called Kitchen Door. As one can see from this construction shot taken yesterday of the concept's future bar site, there's still a way to go. Like so many other highly pedigreed chefs, Humpries will take the step to more casual fare here, offering a menu of "multi-ethnic," seasonal comfort food, much of it designed for sharing. There will be remnants of his beloved Martini House fare on the menu: there's talk of candy cap bread pudding and as per Inside Scoop, "a resurrected version of Martini House's famous cream of mushroom soup."
But all 90 seats will be served in the style of Il Cane Rosso and The Grove: diners place orders at the counter and wait for staff or the chef to deliver items to the table. We're not surprised to learn a rotisserie, a pizza oven and a bar are all part of the plan. The decor will be light and airy with hard surfaces balanced by richly colored fabrics. A retail element, Kitchen Door Market, will vend condiments, jams and such inspired by Humphries wife's recipes. Expect more updates on this multi-faceted project as this opening nears.
