MCFReviewed.jpgAdventure Bauer hits dive sensation Mission Chinese Food inside the Lung Shan Restaurant in the Mission. He calls it the "poster child for alternative dining scenarios," makes it quite clear he's nonplussed by the atmosphere and presumes "What really lights people up is the food." Well it's certainly what lights Bauer up. Chef Danny Bowien's "execution is far different, and more complex, than the surroundings and prices would indicate" and has "more purity and integrity than 99 percent of the Chinese restaurants in the city." So, "Mission Chinese Food wins the award for the best food served in the worst surroundings" and, in an usual twist, Bauer gives 3 stars for food and 1 star for atmosphere, netting out to 2 stars overall.
