Bauer Boots is muted in his praise of Dominique Crenn's much-anticipated Atelier Crenn in the Marina. He walks in to find "bare tables and concrete floors [that] don't necessarily speak of luxury. Still the minimalist design leaves a positive impression." Her dishes "practically require a blueprint to put together" and "in some cases, the kitchen seems more concerned with the presentation than how the dish might taste." Bauer needs guidance to understand a lot of things. He finds the desserts, for the most part, "fanciful." In summary he "vacillated between childlike delight and geezer-like cynicism, depending on whether the dish delivered in the flavor department." So it's a 2.5er for Madame Crenn. [Chron]
