1) The Embarcadero: Today Oakland-based purveyor of above-average-tasting soy products, Hodo Soy Beanery opened a permanent retail kiosk at the Ferry Building. On top of the usual tofu nuggets and yuba strips, the shop offers breakfast and lunch items like smoothies, salads, sandwiches and desserts for take-away. The menu is mostly organic, vegan and gluten-free, save for a few sandwiches that come on Vital Vittles bread. Desserts include Indian rice pudding made with Hodo Soy custard and Scharf’s Mousse, an homage to CEO John Scharffenberger's former life as a professional chocolate visionary. It's now open daily ( Mon-Fri from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sat 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sun 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.); and we're told it's on the Taylor's Refresher Gott's side of the building. [EaterWire]
2) Tenderloin: The hotly rendered reinvention of Bambuddha, Chambers Eat + Drink (601 Eddy Street) opens this evening at the Phoenix Hotel. And according to The Tender, it actually looks a lot like those renderings. As promised, the pool and pool area have been redesigned, there is a "fire fountain," and the interior lives up to Mister Important Design standards. We haven't heard much on Trevor Ogden's menu or the booze program yet, but GrubStreet and The Tender have some nice interior slideshows for your Tuesday afternoon entertainment. We'll fill you in on the rest as we learn it. [EaterWire, GrubStreet, The Tender]
3) Oakland: Right on time, James Syhabout's departure into the land of street food, Hawker Fare (2300 Webster Street) opens today in downtown Oakland. Remember it's a bit of a personal project, as Syhabout's mom ran a restaurant in the same space for years. Justin Yu will be the chef. And there will be Asian rice bowls galore. [ISSF, earlier]
4) Hayes Valley: Scoop also notes a little kid-friendly cafe called Seesaw has been open for a few weeks now on Octavia Street. They have Four Barrel coffee and Scandinavian-leaning food, like smørrebrød. [ISSF]
