YOUNTVILLE - Bardessono just announced they'll start doing a Wednesday night open-to-the-public "party" by the roof pool with cocktails and music from 6 to 9 p.m. Usually only hotel guests can get up there, so this is cool. The first one will happen on June 15; then they'll keep going until October. Notice the proliferation of short sleeves and shorts in the above picture. Real summer! [EaterWire]
BAR STARS - The Chron picks out its five "bar stars" of 2011, representing a rebound of the bar culture they declare in the very same article. There's talk of drinks that have "seamlessness" and the ever-important trade-in of "geek chic" for "understated savvy." Then the list: 23-year old Morgan Young of 15 Romolo, 26-year-old Carlo Splendorini of Michael Mina, Jason "Buffalo" LoGrasso of Quince and Cotogna, Alex Smith of Gitane and Kevin Diedrich of the Burritt Room. Safely assume drinks made by any of the above are going to be better than average. [Chron]
EXPANSIONWIRE - 7x7 tries to get more juice on the impending expansion of City Beer Store in SoMa, and owner Craig Wathen really doesn't give 'em much. All he would say is that the expansion next door may be open by this summer and it will be awesome. [7x7]
ANNOUNCEMENTS - SFoodie managing editor John Birdsall has been hired by the East Bay Express to become its new incognito food critic. Throughout his tenure at SF Weekly, Birdsall did a good job keeping his mug off the world wide web, so he can really be anonymous. Have to give the man props for that. His last day at SFoodie was Friday. [EaterWire]
SWITCHEROOS - Following the news that Hayes Valley's Place Pigalle is changing owners, new owner Jason Perkins has filed for a new liquor license under the LLC, The New Pigalle. This means the name may change and maybe some other things too. [GrubStreet]
