Cow Hollow's The Brick Yard restaurant is working on this new offshoot you see here called Back Yard Kitchen. Partner and contractor Sean Wells tells a devoted Eater tipster the new spot will use the Brick Yard's kitchen to make sandwiches. He mentioned an "amazing" chicken salad. Add this arrival to the coming-soon Lite Bite, and the gaping sandwich hole on Union Street will begin to fill up in the coming months. Remember Brick Yard opened last year during Union Street Fair and they're aiming to open this new guy that same weekend (June 4-5). [Side note: They'll have to celebrate with less booze this time, as alcohol has been prohibited at Union Street Fair this year for the first time in 35 years.]
Wells, who has worked on interiors with both Double Dutch and Vintage 415, will build out a woody, country-feeling interior, in the same vein as Blue Barn on Chestnut Street. There's already a big iron chandelier hanging from the ceiling and he's hoping to add some tables on the sidewalk. It's a big win for a hood notoriously held back by its difficult neighborhood organization. Wells also tells our tipster the Board of Supes is unanimously allowing them to open their big front porch on Union Street—another big win in Union Street restaurant land.
