NORTH BEACH - Besides opening a Tony's spinoff in New York last week, Tony Gemignani has been busy coming up with some new pizzas for his HQ, Tony's Pizza Napoletana here on Stockton Street. There's a new one with cheddar burnt into the crust, Detroit style and a heady sounding number, Pizza Futura, with 93% hydrated dough (this translates to crispy, spongy crust) that uses Marshall Farms blackberry honey as a browning agent. "It's been doing really, really well," says Gemignani. [EaterWire]
FREEBIES - Tully's has unleashed a free-coffee-giving truck in San Francisco. Look for it tomorrow morning, starting at 7:30 a.m. outside the Powell St. BART station. Then it'll be at Carnival in the Mission all weekend. [SFoodie]
ABORT SHIP - You know that fancy La Boulange going in at Pier 1. Well, it's not happening. Pancho Villa hopefulls still got a chance. [ISSF]
OAKLAND - The East Bay's hottest new rice bowl joint, Hawker Fare opens for dinner tonight. [GrubStreet]
