NOVATO - Country crooner Philip Claypool doesn't just own the shiny new Southern Pacific Smokehouse, according to a tipster, he also sings there. FWIW: "I was just there...Philip Claypool sang a few songs and the acoustics were outstanding. Good food, good music, good booze. What more could you want. The dry rubbed ribs with Claypool’s sauce were ambrosia." [EaterWire]

COMING ATTRACTIONS - Charleston, SC chef Sean Brock is kind of a big deal. And he's going to be teaming up with none other than D-Patt for a special $275 8-course dinner on 5/27 at Coi. The next night, Saturday, he'll be at Plum in Oakland doing a $75 5-course deal with Charlie Parker. Proceeds from both dinners will go to Larkin Street Youth Services. Reservations can be made by calling the respective restaurants: Coi, Plum. [EaterWire]

POP-UPS - San Francisco has enough entrepreneurial types making pizza on nomadic ovens to make a party out of it. Crazy. Pizza Politana, Fist of Flour, Copper Top Ovens and Casey’s Pizza will all be tossing pies at Coffee Bar Friday, May 13 to benefit Japan. $12 admission buys four taster slices, beer or wine and the right to vote on who's got the best pie. POP-UPS EXTRA - Eddie Lau's Dux ode-to-duck pop-up will commence this Sunday at The Summit. Madame Hopper's got the deets. [Tablehopper]
