Tacolicious owner Joe Hargrave tells us they're about 90 days away from the opening of Tacolicous II and its adjacent tequila bar Mosto in the Mission. They got unanimous approval from the Planning Commission last week. They've nabbed the liquor license. Now all they need to do is complete the build-out. Take the rendering above as your teaser on what things will look like soon. There are colorful mis-matched Mexican cement tiles on the floor in the dining area and the team is looking to Mexico City for the inspiration behind a mural going on one wall of the glass-encased patio. "There's tons of light," says Hargrave.
Getting in shape for the menu side of things, Chef Telmo Faria spent all day on Tuesday learning the ins-and-outs of silky El Salvadorean, banana-leaf-wrapped tamales from a tamale ninja known only as "Mrs. Reyes." These will be on the menu at Mosto, along with al pastor queso Oaxaca and nopal tacos and a raw fish program. Faria is also headed to Mexico City in a few weeks for a stage at Contramar. At the same time, Hargrave says he's already earned 10K for La Cocina and CUESA through ticket sales to tomorrow's Hecho en San Francisco Cinco de Mayo event. There are still some tickets available for that, by the way.
