The long-vacant space at 1849 Union Street is getting closer to becoming Bistro Unique, which you'll remember is going to be your average French eatery. As the popularity of other nearby French spots Gamine, Cafe Des Amis and La Boulange will show you, this stuff does well in Cow Hollow. So it'll probably be better if Unique doesn't get all crazy and live up to its name. Window signage has recently been added, construction is underway, and there's about 1,730 square feet to play with here.
Eater tipsters point out the nearby La Belle Crepe flip-job is still under construction and SF's first Umami Burger is just starting to clear out the old Joe's/Jovino space on Union too. In the word's of one tipster, "Hopefully Bistro Unique (or is it Unique Bistro?) will stick. I mean, we just had ANOTHER nail shop open up on Union street. I'm all tapped out on nail salons and boutiques. I'll take Unique over Boutique anytime."
