After some rumblings that the Marina's eternally busy Blue Barn would be opening up a location on Polk Street, the liquor license transfer went live on the ABC website over the weekend. It'll go where Yabbie's currently sits, marking the second Blue Barn location from Chef Sam Josi, Nate Valentine and Stryker Scales—the same trio that's behind Mamacita, Umami and Tipsy Pig. Considering Yabbie's is way larger than the existing Chestnut Street location, this one will be markedly different from its predecessor with 30 seats inside and six to eight outside (depending how talks with the City go).
Menu offerings can expand slightly here too; there's room to start a catering operation; and Valentine mentions a significantly larger selection of craft beer and wine will fill things out. "People will actually be able to sit down and have a conversation here, instead of grabbing to go," says Valentine. The build-out will take on a similar barn aesthetic to the Chestnut Street location. Valentine estimates all should be ready for business around the end of this year or the beginning of next. Now for those of you curious about the guys' possible burger joint, Valentine wants to clarify that it's not Umami Burger, even though he has a restaurant named Umami and he liked the Umami Burger he tried in LA. "Our concept is pretty different from Umami Burger's," he says. "If the right space comes up for our burger spot, we're game."
